The thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so you can be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud. Somebody who may not look like you. May not call God the same name you call God - if they call God at all. I may not dance your dances or speak your language. But be a blessing to somebody. That's what I think. - Maya Angelou
Blessing Bags have a long history at Ascension. Designed to give to those we come across in need, they are packed with a variety of essential items including snacks, water, and toiletry products. For many years, we assembled and offered them periodically. Starting last year, we determined they were such a far-reaching ministry that we should make them available at all times. Our decision to offer Blessing Bags continually stems from several factors. First, we see that there is an undeniable need that we can help meet as we drive through the streets of Dallas. Second, we believe that offering these bags meets our community’s needs more readily than giving cash. Finally, distributing the Blessing Bags is a ministry in which all parish members can participate. We’re grateful that our Outbound committee has funded the bags and that our youth group took on the challenge of assembling them. Eva Barraza has done a wonderful job of restocking supplies and ensuring that bags are available in the Narthex each week. We’ve been distributing Blessing Bags consistently for nearly a year, and the subsequent stories from members have been inspiring. During the course of this project, Aidan Dunfee approached Eva and me about Eagle Scout project possibilities at Ascension. Soon, we were making plans to better display our Blessing Bags in the Narthex. The current table has worked, but the new display will be designed specifically for the bags. Aidan is also creating storage for the assembled bags before they reach the display. Beyond your continued help in distributing Blessing Bags, we also ask for your financial support for both the display and for the continuation of the bags themselves. Contributions can be made via our website or through the offering plate at church. Please mark your donations “Outbound”. Another easy option is to purchase items using our Amazon Blessing Bag Wishlist. And of course, we thank you for your sustained support and for embracing this meaningful ministry.
Blessings,
