Ascension's Discretionary Account

Like many churches, Ascension has a discretionary account directed by the clergy. Most of the activity in our account fits the traditional use of the discretionary fund, which is to assist people struggling within the congregation and the larger community. Determining the best use of these funds can be challenging, as we receive many requests.

We strive to guide those in need to other funds or organizations to provide ongoing utility or rental assistance and more. Since our funds are limited, we do our best to direct them to crisis intervention. Often, just a few hundred dollars can make a significant difference in closing the budget gap or avoiding eviction. I do my best to convey that the help comes from a whole community of people at Ascension, and the deep and sincere gratitude from those we assist is quite touching. While anonymity in this process is essential, I wish there was a better way for you to experience their thankfulness.

In addition to helping individuals, this fund also supports several non-profit organizations in our community. We make several donations on North Texas Giving Day to organizations where our members are most involved and a few ongoing donations where we believe the funds can make the biggest difference.

I hope this gives you some insight into another aspect of the life and ministry at Ascension. If you’d like to know more, please reach out to me. You can contribute to this fund online or by noting it in a memo line of a check. And if you know someone in crisis, this may be another way to help them through it.

Blessings,
