Formation Offerings for Children/Youth
FORMATION HOUR: SUNDAYS 9AM-9:50AM
Our Sunday Formation Hour (aka Sunday School) has offerings for all age groups and a variety of opportunities each week.
Nursery (0 – 4) - Room 103
Children are always welcome in Ascension’s worship services, but our nursery is staffed and welcoming for any young ones needing respite or play time - open from the beginning of formation through the worship service (9am-11:30am).
Godly Play (Pre-k – 2nd Grade) - Room 105
This class, for some of our youngest worshippers, is a hands-on approach to understanding the Bible through storytelling, wondering, and art.
Connect (3 – 5TH Grade) - ROOM 107
This class is a journey through the Bible with art, games and more. This fun, hands-on time will explore faith, scripture, and the Episcopal identity!
MIDDLE SCHOOL (6-8TH GRADE) - ROOM 108
This is an engaging, relatable and fun formation class. The curriculum is focused on nurturing young teens in their faith by word, example, and friendships. It offers a wide-range of opportunities for teens to explore their faith, traditions, and the world around them through discussions and activities.
HIGH SCHOOL/CAFE A (9-12TH GRADE) - PARLOR
Our high schoolers are invited to be a part of Cafe A, our teen-run coffee cart with a mission. High schoolers will also be working through the Episcopal Curriculum for Youth, focusing on contemporary issues and discussions on faith in the world around them.
weekly on SUNDAYS, 10:15AM:
Children’s Chapel (Pre-k – 2nd Grade) - Room 105
During our 10:15 Sunday service, children are welcome to join in our Children’s Chapel. Follow the procession from the sanctuary to worship in a child-centered chapel service.
Children/Youth Worship (3RD GRADE & UP) - Sanctuary
Children and youth from grades 3 and up are invited to stay in the worship service each Sunday and become an active participant in the liturgy - shown to be the greatest tool for faith formation. Children can be acolytes, youth vergers, readers, greeters, and ushers, and we love to see children in our worship service! For more information, please contact Jeanne Neill, our acolyte master, at email@example.com or Sarah Klitzke, director of Christian Formation, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MONTHLY ON THE 1ST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH, 10:15AM:
FAMILY SERVICE - SANCTUARY
Our family service on the first Sunday of each month has the same pattern as our regular 10:15 worship service with some songs and aspects from children's chapel. All of the prayers (from the Book of Common Prayer) are included in the bulletin making it more accessible and easier for all to follow along.
Several times a year, we will meet together at 9:00am for special programming for all ages! Check out the calendar for these dates and watch for announcements!
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION (AGE 13 & UP) JAN 12-APR 5, 2020 - EVERY OTHER SUNDAY 6:30-8:00PM
Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which the candidates express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. Those, age 13 thru adulthood, who were baptized at an early age are invited to make a mature public affirmation of their faith, recommit themselves to the responsibilities of their baptism, and receive laying on of hands by a bishop. Confirmation classes will help prepare candidates for the sacrament as we explore the church's teachings and develop our own faith identity.
