Lent is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal—a time to return to God with honesty and hope. Over these forty days, we are invited to slow down, listen more deeply, and open our hearts to the transforming grace of God as we journey together toward Easter.
We invite you to take a look at the Lenten offerings below and join us as you are able. We hope to see you there.

SHROVE TUESDAY - POTLUCK AND PANCAKES
Tuesday, February 17th | 6:00 p.m. | Parish Hall

Join your Ascension family at the annual Shrove Tuesday Potluck Dinner! Bring your favorite dish, Cajun or otherwise, to share with the group. Salads, main dishes, sides, and desserts are all welcome. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and pescatarian dishes are greatly appreciated, as always. Plus, this year we will have a special treat - pancakes! It's a Christian tradition to use up the butter, eggs, and milk to make pancakes before the fasting period begins, so we will have homemade pancakes to share. Bring your potluck dish ready to serve at 6:00 p.m., and Radical Hospitality will provide soft drinks, water, and wine. Friends, family, and all others in between are welcome! Questions? Contact Harry Breda or Kathleen Rylander.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES
Wednesday, February 18th | 12:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. | Nave

Ash Wednesday is the first of the forty days of Lent, named for the custom of placing blessed ashes on Christians' foreheads. We come to this season with cluttered lives and conflicted hearts. On Ash Wednesday, we begin to let go – learn to lay aside what weighs us down. Ashes, prayers, fasting, and opening hearts, hands, and minds mark the Lenten journey that begins this day. Join us for our Ash Wednesday services at noon or 7:30 p.m. on February 18th.

LENTEN CRAFT EVENT
Sunday, February 15th | Following 10:30 Service | Parish Hall

Join us after the 10:30 service on February 15th for another intergenerational craft event. This time, we will put together a craft to help us pray through Lent. Each day, starting on Ash Wednesday, 2/18, we will take out and hang a wooden disc with people or things to pray about on the back. We will be decorating the front so that by the end of each day, you will have a completed wall hanging! We have two options: one using craft tape and another using stickers. Come join us and work together to make one for your household!

ADULT FORMATION
Why Did Jesus Have to Die by Adam Hamilton
Sundays in Lent | 9:15 a.m. | Office Conference Room

This Lent, our adult formation group will read and discuss Why Did Jesus Have to Die by Adam Hamilton. Despite the crucifixion’s central place in Christian faith, the New Testament offers few clear answers about how Jesus’ death saves, or why, exactly, he had to die. The New Testament writers use a host of metaphors―ransom, sacrifice, reconciliation, victory―but never explain exactly how it works or why it had to happen this way.
What if that’s because we’ve been asking the wrong question? What if the cross isn’t a transaction to be explained, but a living Word from God meant to transform who we are and how we live? Please join us for this engaging series on Sundays at 9:15 a.m.

MEN’S FORMATION GROUP BOOK STUDY:
When You Don’t Have the Words: Praying the Psalms
Sundays in Lent | 9:15 a.m. | Youth and Outreach Center
The Men’s Sunday School will start a new book study on February 1st. Our text will be When You Don’t Have the Words: Praying the Psalms by Reed S. Dunn. Here is an overview:
Many of us gloss over the Psalter, reading, praying, and absorbing it. Yet the psalms, through their poetic words, guide believers through worship, personal reflection, and communal gatherings.
Engaging with the psalms can lead to a deeper faith and greater understanding of God’s nature. For two millennia, Christians have found psalmic prayer to be a primary path to God. The psalms can be a bridge between our human experience and God’s voice, an ancient path that leads us to our Savior's presence and helps shape us into the image–bearers we were made to be.

Please join us at 9:15 on Sundays as we discuss and apply the path that leads to a deeper faith and prayer life!
