ABOUT CATHERINE MILLER:
I spent the first 13 years of life as missionary kid. I was born in Tabriz, Iran where my parents served with the American Presbyterian Mission. When I was five my father was called to lead the Community Church of Teheran, a congregation of expats and Christians from around the world. We lived in the capital until half way through my 6th grade year when my family and I were evacuated due to political unrest and civil war. After two years in New Jersey we settled in California where dad became senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Santa Barbara.
Growing up in ministry and living in a third world country had a profound effect on my faith and worldview. At a very young age I learned about the valuable ministry of presence. My parents work was relational and pastoral and I witnessed their faith play out in very practical ways as they served alongside Christians, Muslims and Jews.
In my early adult years I worked in corporate America and the non-profit arena before starting a family. As a young mom I had a distinct call to lay ministry. In 2014 I joined the staff of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas where I served as director of pastoral programs and adult formation. A year later I completed a 10 month hospital chaplaincy internship. I also started and completed a three year certificate program in the Art of Spiritual Leadership and Spiritual Direction through HeartPaths DFW.
In addition to spiritual direction, I enjoy teaching and offer a variety of presentations/workshops on Christian spirituality, grief and loss, Holy listening, presence, hospitality and more! My particular interests in spiritual direction are grief and loss and narcissistic abuse. I’m also a certified facilitator for Invite Welcome Connect, a ministry of Sewanee’s Beecken Center School of Theology and I serve as a regional representative for Community of Hope International, a lay pastoral training ministry.
I'm a wife and mother of two amazing young adult children. I'm an aspiring contemplative, yoga practitioner and lover of travel, animals, special needs kids and all things related to Christian spirituality.
