What drew you to consider Vestry leadership at this time?

Becoming a member of the Vestry is very important during this time of uncertainty and multiple challenges. It is critical that we support our diversity, grow our spiritual and outreach ministries, and address post-pandemic participation.

In addition to your professional expertise, what unique gifts, talents, and experience would you bring to the Vestry?

I have the ability to ask questions, summarize issues, and help develop support for solutions. I'm a team player; have a good understanding of ECA’s history, am patient, and am a good listener.  I have experience in strategic planning. marketing / presentations, finance, not-for-profit governance, and for-profit business structures.

What do you hope for Ascension over the next 3-5 years?

I'd love to see Ascension grow with our community in diversity, support outreach ministries, have financial stability.

If selected for this role, what activities, ministries, or areas of parish life would you like to be involved in?

Vestry members are church leaders, participating in multiple ministries is important as is being available to help identify and participate in areas of most need. My interest would include supporting youth programs, outreach, and veteran ministries.

How has Ascension continued to form and inspire your faith?

Faith is very personal.  Inspiration for growing one’s faith comes from our church community, worship services, and internal and external programs.  I am grateful for being a part of the ECA family which has opened many opportunities for me to participate and grow in faith.

What drew you to consider Vestry leadership at this time

I want to continue to be an active contributor to Ascension-my church home-by allocating more of my time and energy to its growth.

In addition to your professional expertise, what unique gifts, talents, and experience would you bring to the Vestry? I am well-organized and a hard worker.

What do you hope for Ascension over the next 3-5 years?
GROWTH and more diversity. If selected for this role, what activities, ministries, or areas of parish life would you like to be involved in? Antiracism Task Force, Formation, and Stewardship.

How has Ascension continued to form and inspire your faith?

Ascension is a welcoming, warm and community-involved church. The emphasis on these areas combined with study of The Word and its excellent clergy leadership have made it play a very significant role in my faith journey.

Leadership and participation in Parish Ministries & Activities

I am Chair of the Christian Formation Committee, and I have been a Sunday School facilitator for the adult group for about ten years. I have been a lay reader for the 8 AM service for about eight years. My husband Dan and I are active in the ministry for refugees, and when school is not in session, I help with the Food Pantry. We also coordinate the openers for Sundays and other services throughout the year.

Community Activities & Organizations (not for profit or civic)

I am active in the Texas State Junior Classical League – a non-profit group that plans and hosts the local and state Latin competitions each year. This includes logistics for hosting 600-1800 students, writing tests, and coordinating judging for art contests. I am also active with the national organization, writing tests, judging contests, and taking students in the summer to the contest. I love to travel, and pre-Covid I would take a group of my students each year to Italy for a week. I also love to read, walk, hike, and play with our dog Gracie.

What drew you to consider Vestry leadership at this time?

I enjoyed my first term on Vestry, so when asked to run again I readily agreed. I would like to continue to give back to the church community that has made me feel so welcome.

In addition to your professional expertise, what unique gifts, talents, and experience would you bring to the Vestry?

I am an organized planner, able to work several months ahead and anticipate needs, especially regarding curriculum and events for Formation. I’m good at breaking a task into steps and keeping to a schedule, so I enjoy working on projects. I am able to see both sides of an issue and participate in the discussion.

What do you hope for Ascension over the next 3-5 years?

From a Christian Formation perspective, I would like to see the number of children and adults participating in our offerings grow over the next few years, and our programs and curriculum continue to expand once we are able to have more events. I would also like the congregation to grow with more families involved.

If selected for this role, what activities, ministries, or areas of parish life would you like to be involved in?

I will continue to be involved in Christian Formation, Outreach, and coordinating the opening of the church for services.

How has Ascension continued to form and inspire your faith?

I have grown so much in my faith during my time at Ascension. I joined in 2008, and I have become more active in ministries each year. Since I joined the adult Bible study, my discipline in reading and studying scripture has expanded more than I ever thought it would. I am also more engaged with the liturgical seasons both at church and at home.
