English as a Second Language (ESL) and Kids Campus Childcare
Ascension and Stults Road Elementary School saw a need for parents of children attending Stults Road. Many parents of students there do no speak English making it difficult to become involved as a parent with the school (i.e. PTA) or helping their children with homework.
Ascension’s ESL Program involves a partnership with the Wilkinson Center, a Dallas nonprofit to provide English to primarily parents of children who attend Stults Road Elementary School. In addition, Ascension secured another partnership with Dallas Community Lighthouse (DCL), a nonprofit that provides a successful, structured after-school program for children in low-income apartment complexes. With the help of DCL, Ascension was able to develop a childcare program located on the church campus to meet the needs of the children while parents were in class twice per week. Nursery services are provided as well.
