December 4, 2007 - Dallas, Texas - The Episcopal Church of the
Ascension presents its eighth annual Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival
on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 5:00 PM. Admission is free and a
festive holiday reception will follow the performance.
This popular holiday tradition officially closes the Christmas
season and features traditional carols, costumed actors and singers,
and music for brass, organ and choir combining to enact medieval
Christmas traditions and the story of Christ's birth.
The origins of the Boar's Head Festival lie in medieval England
where a wild boar was often killed and served during the Christmas
season. The death of the beast came to symbolize Christ's victory
over sin and evil in the world. The festival was presented for centuries
at Queen's College, Oxford Universities before being brought to
the United States. Through the years, the Christian Church has transformed
the symbolic festival into a service of praise in celebration of
the Incarnation.
The Festival is FREE. Bring your family and gather up friends to
come with you to close the holiday season with fanfare, fantasy
and folly as Ascension delights in bringing to life this remarkable
annual event.
The Episcopal of Church of the Ascension is a diverse and welcoming
Christian community dedicated to expanding the awareness of God's
presence in the lives of everyone. The church is located at 8787
Greenville Avenue, just north of Royal Lane.
