Zip Code of Hope Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the Zip Code of Hope Scholarship
is to provide an opportunity for college-bound high
school students or currently enrolled college students
to plan, coordinate and implement an outreach activity
within the 75243 zip code that will make a difference
in the lives of the poor and disadvantaged within
our community.
Overview: Interested students complete an application
for a project that meets certain criteria and, if
awarded the scholarship, will not only receive up
to $4,000 toward college education upon completion
of the project, but will also develop leadership skills
by managing a project that expresses their faith or
values. .
Guidelines:
" Students may apply if they will be classified
as Juniors or Seniors in high school or Freshmen,
Sophomores, or Juniors in college during the fall
semester following the submission of the application.
" There is no residency or religious affiliation
requirement, but the student must be willing to partner
with Ascension to develop a project that is an expression
of his or her faith or deepest beliefs.
" Proposed projects must meet the criteria listed
below.
" If supplies are needed, up to $1,000 may be
awarded to fund supply cost.
" Disbursement of scholarship funds will be made
upon completion of the project and review by the Scholarship
Committee.
" If a scholarship is awarded, the student will
be invited to Ascension to report on the project to
members of the congregation.
" Up to $2,000 may be retroactively awarded to
eligible students for outreach projects meeting the
scholarship criteria that were completed between 1/1/07
and 5/31/08.
" Scholarship recipients will be provided a sponsor
from Ascension who will be available for consultation
at regularly scheduled progress meetings.

" Be within the 75243 zip code. Click

" Have a direct, measurable impact on peoples'
lives, particularly in meeting the needs of the elderly;
of children and youth; of those who are poor, dispirited,
hungry, homeless, ill, or disabled.
" Provide opportunities for members of Ascension
to become involved in the project.
" Be either a unique outreach project or an extension
or significant enhancement of an existing project.
" Have clear goals and measurable outcomes.
