Parish Notices
Style Guide
Parish Notices are published weekly and distributed with the service sheets at all Saturday and Sunday Services.
Anyone wishing to include a notice for an Ascension event must send the complete notice to the office to Dodie Reagan, email: admin@ascensiondallas.org , no later than noon on Tuesday preceding the weekend of publication. This is important, as Dodie currently only works Monday and Tuesdays, and has many other things to do. Please be punctual.
Write your own text, using a standard word processor like "Word", or in the body of an email. Use "Times New Roman" script. Please do not format the notice, or use "publisher" or other similar publishing software, as this has to be unformatted, and sometimes completely re-written to match the Parish Notices format.
Keep the notice short and to the point, for two reasons: First it is easier to read and the message is more likely to get across. Second, there is a limited space available - generally no more than two sides of half-legal sized paper (a total of about 750 words). So, please keep your notice to 150 words or less, including title and any contact information. Run a spell-check on the notice before turning it in! Remember to note when the notice should begin running and when it should stop.
Example Notice:
Fifth Annual Stults
Elementary Book Drive: We will give new books to each student at the school
in May. Ascension volunteers will festively wrap the new books for the
students. Most of the students do not have many books of their own, so it is a
real treat to get a new gift wrapped book from Ascension. Our book drive is
part of our partnership effort with the school and students to increase
literacy and the love of reading. Stults Road Elementary has now achieved
exemplary status two years in a row. Ascension has played a part in achieving
that top status through our commitment as a partner. Look for the Stults Road
Book Drive table in the Narthex through the month of April. You may donate
money for a discounted rate purchase or purchase books on your own. For more
