All (Sorts of) Saints

On All Saints' Sunday 2011, we welcomed new brothers and sisters into the body of Christ, marking them as saints (holy ones) of God, baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The saints at Ascension come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds.

African Communities at Ascension

While Ascension has members from all over the world, we have particularly large communities from Nigeria and South Sudan. This diversity enriches our faith, enlivens our fellowship, and fills our bellies. This is not your average church potluck!

We who are many are one body, because we all share one bread, one cup. Weekly worship at Ascension always includes a celebration of Holy Communion, according to the Book of Common Prayer

Youth Ministry

Junior and senior high youth at Ascension come from all over the metroplex. They gather in the name of Christ for mission trips, retreats, and weekly fellowship and study. And this year, the senior high youth are preparing for a pilgrimage to Canterbury, England.

A Place of Learning for All Ages

Ascension is rooted deeply in common worship and prayer, but it also a place of formation and learning. Sunday school for children and adults, special lectures, Vacation Bible School, small-group studies and retreats are just some of the opportunities to learn more about and grown in your faith at Ascension.

People Helping People

Ascension is a congregation of people helping people. Sometimes that takes can of paint. Sometimes it takes a bag of food from the Elaine Kadane Food Pantry. We have many ongoing, seasonal, and one-time outreach projects.

Join a small group this Lent and explore Jesus in the Gospel of John using Rebecca Manleys Pippert's Looking at the Life of Jesus: 7 Seeker Bible Discussions on the Gospel of John. Don't be thrown off by the title of the book. Pippert encourages us to discuss questions such as "Who is Jesus?" "What was his life like?" "Why was he so unconventional in his day?" "Why is he so controversial now?" "What does his life have to do with ours?" You've probably thought about these questions before, but don't let that keep you from signing up.

Spiritual Practice Sessions: The Holiness Tradition

Wednesday evening spiritual formation group meeting during Lent

On Wednesday evenings during Lent, Mother Kai and Father Andrew will lead a session on spiritual disciplines rooted in the Holiness Tradition. The focus will be on learning the disciplines by doing them, rather than by talking about them. The Holiness Tradition was a movement that arose in the 18th century, emphasizing the need for Christians to overcome sinful habits, such as harsh or gossipy speech, covetousness, and submission to temptation and appetites.

Listening For God

2012 Ascension Women's Retreat

The theme for the 2012 Women's Retreat is "Listening for God," and will be led by The Rev. Mary Lessman, Associate Vicar at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in McKinney (the women of St. Andrew's will be joining us). The retreat will take place at Springhill Retreat Center in Richardson on March 23-24. Great meals will be cooked by Ascension and St. Andrew’s parishioner-chefs, and there will be time to relax and get to know each other and enjoy the outdoors at the retreat center.
