Church Mission

Episcopal Church of the Ascension Vision, Mission and Core Values
Adopted by the Vestry on May 20, 2014

Episcopal Church of the Ascension strives to be a diverse body of God’s people proclaiming Jesus’ Gospel through worship, fellowship, education, and service.

Episcopal Church of the Ascension’s mission is to:

  • Engage individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and incorporate them into Ascension’s family;
  • Provide a warm and welcoming place where people can deepen their knowledge about Christianity and experience a meaningful spiritual life; and
  • Serve our community and the world beyond as disciples of Jesus.

Core Values:
Warmth and Welcome
We value our ethnic, political, theological, economic, and age diversity and promote mutual respect of all members of our parish community. We share God’s love by providing a place of hospitality, healing, and hope.

Mission and Ministry
We nurture strong clergy and lay leadership and cultivate an environment where people want to get involved. Working together, we minister to those in need within our parish family and reach beyond ourselves to minister to others in our community and around the world.

Worship in Community
We value the simple elegance and ritual of Episcopal worship and weekly Holy Eucharist. Our sanctuary’s design promotes a sense of community during worship.

Inquiring Minds
We know that we do not have all the answers, value the study of scripture and tradition, and strive for a collaborative environment that is respectful of differing perspectives and that promotes mutual inquiry and accountability.
